Healthy Streets are streets where everyone is welcome to safely walk, cycle, drive , connect, play, explore and relax. No matter where we live, it’s important for everyone in our community to access and enjoy our streets and get where they need to go safely. There is a lot of evidence that shows our environment influences our health in many ways.
For instance, people walk more and are healthier when they live in neighbourhoods with well-connected footpaths and less traffic . Streets that have enough shade and space for people to walk and cycle make it easy and enjoyable to get around.
Our neighbourhood streets and spaces also affect how we feel. Trees, parks, shops and restaurants that can be used by people of all ages and abilities enhance the liveability of a street. Living close to parks, trees and public spaces allows us to enjoy nature, play sport, connect with friends and family, and have better mental health.
Streets have been changed like this in London through the Healthy Streets approach.
Join us for an interactive community workshop with Lucy Saunders, founder of Healthy Streets and find out what you can do to make your streets healthier places to live, work and play.
